Things We’ve Learned!

Dr. David J. Ebel, keeping careful track of everything we've learned.
During the course of our addiction, we have learned the following:
-
Reciever batterys need to be charged occasionally.
- When radio control is lost, planes tend towards the earth.
- Turn the plane receiver off first, then the transmitter.
- Bind your reciever with throttle all the way down, especially on electric planes.
- AR123 batteries cannot be managed using voltage checks. You have to track mAh used and stored.
- Avoid saying “watch this” whenever possible.
- Gas is more fun than nitro – less oil, equipment, cost, and bigger toys!
- Foamies are great for everyone – even after you are done training.
- $150 used nitro airplanes are rarely worth the trouble.
- Consider who you buy from – good pilots, good people, and friends will make a sweet deal even sweeter.
- Expo’s and RC Shows are a great way to meet new people who have dreams of RC flying, but haven’t yet took the plunge. These are the people we want to engage with and encourage!
- If you can’t fly, spend some time on the simulator – it will keep you fresh until you can finally make it out to the field.
- If you don’t like to build, make friends with a good builder. If you like nice planes but are scared to fly or crash them, learn to build.
That’s it for now! Check back soon, ’cause we’re always learning new things…
